Abe’s first winter

Posted February 9th, 2010 by Jeff

While Abe was technically born in the spring, it was during a snowstorm. So it’s appropriate that his first winter has been a powdery one. Right now there are some big flakes falling with two feet already on the ground. I can’t remember the last time we got to do so much xc skiing, and with the Chariot on skis, Abe gets to play, too.

Like a lot of towns in this part of West Virginia, Marlinton is in a floodplain, and when our first big snow was followed shortly after with a week or so of warm weather, everyone held their breath as the Greenbrier River and Knapp’s Creek started to back up. By the time the water started to recede, it had left a pretty big mess, but it wasn’t catastrophic.

At times it’s been a challenge, but I’m having fun in my new role as a full-time dad. I like to think that Abe’s having some fun, too.
