Enjoying It All

The garden is in, the giraffe pool is out, and again we sleep to the hum of the fan.  It sure feels like summer.  Outside, outside, outside, that is where you will find us.

Admiring his prized balloon, just moments before heartbreak as it slipped off his wrist and floated away.

A couple weeks ago we headed to nearby Seneca State Forest for a quick camping trip.  It was crazy fun, and Abe had a blast.  Needless to say he probably put on quite the light show in the tent with the half dozen flashlights we had with us.

Caterpillar = Tentertainment.

Evenings have been insanely busy since our garden was tilled almost two weeks ago. Kenneth and his cousin generously tilled it for us- and after a double pass we had fluffy rock free soil, ready for planting.

Abe planning the garden, or more likely strategizing how to get his own tractor.

Plant, water, plant, water, plant, water.

We now have up the electric fence, and have planted plenty of corn, tomatoes, butternut, cukes, pumpkins, assorted flowers & herbs, and probably way too much squash & zucchini.  With a 30×60′ garden we thought a sprinkler would come in handy.   We quickly found that it comes in just as handy to cool down after working in the garden.

Chasing the spray.

Looks like we have to change the blog title again

For those who don’t already know, we’re with child again!, or rather Sarah is, and on Wednesday we had a chance to check in on the little guyrl.  I think it’s a crime against humanity to find out what a baby’s sex is going to be before the fact, so Sarah’s humoring me again and letting it be a surprise.  Here’s an outtake from the ultrasound session.

Number Two at 20 Weeks
If you're skilled at reading ultrasounds and can tell whether this is a girl or boy, please keep it to yourself.

And if that isn’t enough for you, here’s the ultrasound session in its entirety.  Just be thankful we didn’t stop by with a projector and narrate it for you.

We’re trying to get Abe used to the idea that he’ll eventually have to give up his coveted only-child status.   He likes to sign “baby” and when we ask where the baby is, or even just say “baby”, he points to Sarah’s belly, so he’s aware that something’s afoot, but given the magnitude of the early-October tempest that’s forecast for his little world, awareness probably won’t be enough.

Spring at last

March and April came and went, and May, here you are.  Spring has been filled with birthdays, trains, rain, and family time.

Abe is 2!
Starting in on the birthday bounty
Abe carefully chopping his broccoli, protective and stylish apron and all.
The start of trains taking over our living room.

Spring skipped April entirely and it is finally feeling like it has arrived.  Things have dried out over the past few days and we’ve embraced all things spring- which mostly consists of not having to be inside anymore and planning our garden.

A moment of rest at the playground.
Abe is the most frequent recipient of my yard sale shopping.
Our family on a Mother's day hike.

After a Mother’s Day brunch we got out for a quick hike.  The bump is not from having seconds of strawberry rhubarb crisp or to-die-for-biscuits, but rather my quickly growing baby belly!!  We’ll keep getting out while we can for hikes, with Jeff carrying Abe, and me carrying little brother or sister!

Walking with Mommy.

And while a bit early for summer, we thought we’d give Abe a taste of what’s to come.  He thoroughly enjoyed his first ear of corn.

Corn. Corn. Corn. Corn. Corn.
