Wishing you a happy, healthy, and fun MMXI

The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once. – Albert Einstein

Given everything that’s happened this year, all the joy and all the sorrow, we’re incredibly grateful for the metered pace of time.  Happy new year, family and friends.  Hoping to see you all in 2011.

Holiday Intermission

Posted December 16th, 2010 by Sarah

We celebrated  a quiet  Thanksgiving day at home.  It was a treat to use my great-grandparents china (on the Jones side) for the first time.  I’m sure we’ll be feasting on it again Christmas day, other holidays, and whenever I feel the need for a little something special.   Abe wasn’t fond of the turkey or any of the fixings (which just meant more for us!), and instead was more than happy with his recent favorite of blueberries and yogurt.  But to no one’s surprise he gobbled up his sliver of homemade pumpkin cheesecake- and ate some of mine too.  After dinner we headed to the cemetery for a stroll.

We kicked off the holiday season with a visit to nearby Frost, for a horse drawn carriage ride, visit with Santa, and to get our tree.  While Abe seemed to enjoy the carriage ride, he was terrified of Santa.  There’s always next year.

The cold hasn’t kept us from playing outside.  And wearing mittens hasn’t kept Abe from wanting to play with his chalk.

The snow’s upon the Alleghenies and the view from the window is monochrome again, thanks to the eight inches that fell yesterday.  Last winter was Abe’s first, of course, but this one may as well be, considering how excited he gets with every flake he sees.  Here’s hoping he becomes a skier, because his parents are going to be making him do a lot of it.

We’re surrounding ourselves with the trappings of another holiday, but Christmas this year has already been very different, with Abraham helping to decorate the tree and the gingerbread men.

Merry Christmas and happy new year, y’all!

24 Hours in the Car

Posted November 19th, 2010 by Jeff

This fall has largely been spent making, wearing, and being crazy pants.

We decided Abraham should just be himself for Halloween, so he stripped off the street clothes and revealed his true identity, Mama’s Boy.

And what better way to put Mama’s Boy’s superpowers to the test than a twelve-plus hour car ride to New England, to see Kevin and Melissa and meet Benjamin for the first time.

Then back in the car for a few days with the Hankinsons.
